Meet our Board of Directors

Liz Townley

Board President

  • Liz Townley lives in Carmen, Idaho with her family and an assortment of farm animals. She started her career in non-profit work focused on river advocacy and then moved over to a career in federal land management serving in roles primarily in rivers, wilderness management, and outdoor recreation. Liz currently works remotely for the National Wilderness and Wild & Scenic Rivers program for the U.S. Forest Service. She is a champion for sustainable and equitable access, as well as transparency and communication in planning so that all Americans have a say over how their public lands and waters are managed.

Jesse Lutz

Board Vice President

  • Jesse Lutz lives in Salmon and enjoys creating culinary delights and the expanse of diversity in public lands within Lemhi Valley (especially the Wilderness) with his partner and their dog - Hatch.  He joined the board of SVS in the spring of 2023 and looks forward to learning from their experience. When not galivanting outside you can find him at Salmon’s bike and surf shop ‘The Hub’ working on his newly found focus of tuning up bikes of all different shapes and sizes.

Chuck Mark

Director

  • ​Chuck was born just outside Chicago, Illinois and grew up in the Midwest. Even though he was raised in an urban setting, he spent many summers in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan camping, hiking, swimming, fishing, and riding motorcycles. After graduating from high school Chuck headed west to the University of Montana where he obtained a B.S. degree at the School of Forestry. He worked as a seasonal employee for the U.S. Forest Service for 9 years before joining the agency as a permanent employee in 1989. Chuck’s career spanned 39 years in the Forest Service in a variety of positions on Forests in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. He has a deep resource background in silviculture, fire, and wilderness management. Chuck spent the last half of his career as a line officer serving as a District Ranger, Deputy Forest Supervisor, and finally Forest Supervisor on the Salmon-Challis National Forest. He has always believed that National Forest management was all about working with people in local communities through the development of strong and lasting relationships. Chuck truly believes that natural resource stewardship is critical to the vitality and sustainability of the
    communities that we live and play in.

    Chuck lives in Salmon with his wife Pam. He has two daughters, Sienna lives in Boston, Massachusetts where she is working on her PhD at Northeastern University,
    and Peyton is a cosmetologist who lives and works in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Kristin Greiner

Board Secretary

  • Kristin grew up in the Pacific Northwest spending most of her time outdoors with her family.  Her love for the outdoors and conservation only grew after she left home and became a river guide and camp cook. Guiding around the world, she kept finding herself back  in  Salmon playing on the river or skiing at LT. In 2016, she decided this was the place she wanted to put her roots down.  Now Kristin and her husband have a beautiful daughter and son who they can't wait to share all that the public lands and Lemhi County have to offer. 

Mike Hart

Director

  • Mike Hart was born in Kansas and discovered seasonal outdoor work while earning a degree in Geology. He spent summers backpacking, climbing, working as a raft guide, ski bum, and river ranger in the mountains of Colorado and Utah where he met his wife, Cary. He began his professional career in Idaho where he focused on environmental communication related to cleanup projects. While raising two kids in Idaho Falls, he built a science communication company and finished a Masters Degree in Environmental Science Policy and Law.

    When the nest emptied, the Hart family made a radical change and moved to Salmon in 2017 where Mike could fly backcountry and cargo as a line pilot and check airman for Gem Air. He now flies an air ambulance jet based in Montana. Mike and Cary chose Salmon to live closer to the land, continuing to raise most of their own food and enjoy the proximity to quiet, open and wild places and the ancestral lands of the Agai-Dika and Tuka-Dika. Outdoor recreation, sustainability, food, social equity and rural economic vitality are all guiding values for the Harts.

Jessa Gonzales

Board Treasurer

  • Jessa Gonzales recently moved to Salmon, Idaho after 18 years in Missoula, Montana. Drawn by a love for open spaces and a desire for a slower, more connected lifestyle, she, her husband, and their four-year-old son, are excited to put down roots in the community. Jessa is passionate about local food systems, gardening, and supporting sustainable economies. As the new stewards of The Hub, her family looks forward to fostering a welcoming community space that supports the diverse ventures and people that make Salmon special. When not working, you’ll find her and her family on the river, trail running, or exploring the outdoors together.

Amy Kramer

Director

  • Amy has spent the majority of her professional career as a vegetation ecologist and fell in love with the Salmon River Mountains and the Frank Church Wilderness while conducting her Master’s research at the Taylor Wilderness Research Station. After moving to Salmon in 2022, Amy started Serviceberry native plant nursery. Outside of nursery work, you can find her recreating outdoors in all the ways with her family and friends. Amy is excited to be a part of the SVS board and to support the organization in fostering ecological stewardship and connections to the land.
