Partnering with Public Land Agencies
Healthy forests, rangelands, and watersheds depend on reliable ecological data to guide land management decisions. SVS field crews work with a range of partners to monitor vegetation, wildlife habitat, forest conditions, and rangeland health across central Idaho. The information collected helps land managers evaluate ecosystem conditions, prioritize restoration efforts, and make informed decisions that support working lands, healthy wildlife populations, and resilient natural resources.
Projects include vegetation monitoring, forest regeneration surveys, wildlife habitat surveys, invasive species monitoring, riparian habitat assessments, and other ecological inventories that support long-term stewardship of public lands.
The Forestry and Monitoring Program also provides meaningful field experience for emerging natural resource professionals. Crew members develop practical skills in plant identification, ecological monitoring, data collection, and field navigation while working alongside experienced staff and agency partners. These opportunities help prepare participants for careers in conservation, restoration, land management, and other natural resource fields.
