Tool Library Overview
This small, but mighty program aims to create a more connected community by bringing together people, resources, and ideas to inspire creativity, connection and resilience. A main focus of the Tool Library is tool-sharing through the hosting of a tool lending library. With over 250 tools to choose from, the Toolies (as they are affectionately called) are working to increase access to these essential tool/equipment resources needed for community members to live, work and play in rural Salmon Idaho. Often, these are tools that are not found through other rental resources. Tool Library members share in the cost of maintenance and repair, risk and liability through an annual membership of $50 per year.
For the summer 2025, the open hours are:
Monday: 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm
Tuesday: 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm
Wednesday: 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm
Thursday: 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm
The physical address of the tool library is:
505 Van Dreff
Salmon, Idaho, 83467

Rent some tools! Here's how it works:
Step 1
Create an account here. You don’t need to pay to create an account and/or browse available tools. You will need an account once you’re ready to borrow tools, and a one-year membership is only $50 for up to a family of four. You can pay online, or pay at the Tool Library in person. We accept cash, personal checks, or credit cards (cash or check are preferred). You will need to sign a release of liability form and have a credit card on file in case of lost/unreturned tools.
Step 2
Check out all the tools we have available here. The calendar attached to the description of each tool shows you if it’s available to rent. You can also reserve the tool ahead of time via the calendar, but it’s not required. Then visit the Tool Library during open hours to pick up or return tools (if you can’t make our open hours, let us know and we will work with you to get you the tools you need).
Step 3
Tool rentals default to one week in length. If you need the tool longer, let us know when you check it out, or contact us via email at toollibrary@salmonvalley.org. Some tools come with an additional small fee to cover things like fuel for chainsaws, trimmer string for weed whippers, saw blades for circular, etc. For some tools, you’ll have to provide your own consumable items, such as blades for the jigsaw, sand paper for the palm sander, basic drill bits, and fasteners for your project.
Step 4
When it’s time to return the tools you’ve borrowed, bring them back to open Library hours, or arrange return via text or email (listed above). Once we check in your tools, you’re ready to borrow again!
